The much-awaited Skoda Slavia midsize sedan is ready to make a world debut on 18 November 2021. The upcoming Slavia will have all new updates. The Skoda Slavia is the second model of Volkswagen group’s MQB A0-IN from India 2.0. Created in India, like its sister model, the Kushaq, the Slavia is larger, cheaper, has more space, and has all the advanced features to provide the best experience to its customers.

Highlights

The Slavia is much larger than the first-generation model, Octavia, and smaller than Honda town. But, it is the widest automobile in its category with maximum space and comfort. Slavia has the best AI technologies equipped and provides a smooth ride. Slavia is expected to set new benchmarks in its class and provide all comfort at a lower price than Honda City. Skoda’s model, Octavia, has the potential to be a simple yet advanced model in India.

Exterior and Design

After the launch of the sketch of the upcoming Slavia model, it is clear that this model will be a beast. The sketch reveals that the Slavia will have Skoda’s new and broader flush-mounted grille and triangular headlights. Unfortunately, many details on the exterior are still not available.

The material has 67 percent of high strength steel and 14 percent of hot-formed steel. The automobile has six airbags and curtain airbags which are entirely optional. It consists of a laser-welded roof and tailgate.

Surprisingly, Skoda has also conducted rear crash tests. Slavia has been designed to boost pedestrian safety. The bonnet and bumper not only protect your lower leg or from any head injury but will also defend pedestrians against leg injuries.

Interiors

Skoda Octavia Interior

The interior details are still not revealed by Skoda but the spied model is expected to have-

  • LED tail lights
  • A touchscreen system like Kushaq
  • Connectivity of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Alloy wheels
  • AC Vents
  • A two-spoke steering wheel
  • Fog lamps
  • Sunroof
  • Dual-tone interior
  • Climate Control
  • Six airbags
  • LED headlights
  • Analogue dials for the instrument cluster

It is also expected that the cabin is huge.

Engine

Skoda Slavia will have the MQB-A0 IN platform. The engine details are-

1-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 115PS or 178 Nm of torque. It consists of a 6-speed manual.  It also gets a second engine of a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol unit, producing 150PS or 250 Nm of torque. It comes with either a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DSG, i.e., dual-clutch automatic.

This gives a neck-to-neck competition to its rivals. The engine produces 250 Nm of torque from 1,500rpm. This will be the highest torque-producing automobile in its category.

The gear has a six-speed manual. However, it is tall to help fuel potency and emissions. It is taller than Honda City and Kushaq, which has a gear of 159kph. The second gear is very tall and consists of turbo lag. This is particularly if you want to speed down on the traffic and have to shift to a lower gear now and then constantly. The clutch is lightweight. It is lighter than the Kushaq’s clutch. Also, the six-speed manual shell does not require an excessive amount of force.

Price

Even though the company does not yet reveal the price details, it is expected that the upcoming Skoda Slavia will cost between 10 Lakhs to 15 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

Rivals

After the launch in November, the Slavia will compete with Volkswagen’s Vento successor, Virtus, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, and Honda City.

Will Skoda Rapid Come to an End?

Skoda Rapid Come to an End

Yes. Skoda has confirmed that they are discontinuing Rapid. To date, around 1 Lakh  Skoda Rapid models have been sold-out in India. Production is formally over. The last batch has also been launched.

After ten years of Skoda Rapid’s launch in the Indian automobile to gain popularity just like Hyundai Verna and Honda City, it failed. Ten years ago, sedans were in high demand. Hyundai Verna and Honda City were competing for neck-to-neck to get the highest spot in the section. Skoda and Vento also entered the race in no time. Maruti also launched SX4.

But things changed. Due to the demand for the latest trend of SUVs, sedan sales are on the decline. The automobile industry has either given generation updates to their several sedans or has stopped selling their product. Two such examples were Maruti SX4 and Fiat Linea. Even though Hyundai Verna and Honda City continued the journey, each of them got generation updates.

The Honda City has indeed gotten 2 generation updates since the Skoda Rapid was launched. The Maruti Ciaz replaced the SX4. It finally managed to climb up the top of Hyundai Verna and Honda City. However, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid continued with constant setup, with some changes here and there.

Finally, Skoda and Volkswagen can launch newly updated sedans. Skoda is launching its latest model, Skoda Slavia, on November 18, 2021. Volkswagen, on the other hand, is also ready to launch a model like the Slavia. It is expected to be known as Virtus in Q1 2022.
