BMW to Introduce Fully Digital Car Key with Apple iPhone Wallet

In the current Coronavirus Pandemic, everyone is trying to maintain social distancing and also trying not to touch public things as much as possible to pretend the spread the Covid-19. BMW has introduced a digital CarKey for iPhone users, which will allow you to open your car using your phone.

Apple revealed the digital key that opens and starts vehicles using the Apple Watch and iPhone. The first vehicle to support the system is the 2021 BMW 5-series.

The feature will be implemented on the iOS 13 next month, and Apple is working with industry groups to bring the feature to more cars in 2021.

The digital key uses NFC technology. The driver can tap the vehicle to unlock it and place the phone in the charging tray once in the vehicle and start it. At least it works on the BMW. The digital key will remain in the iPhone Wallet App. Apple says that it is working to make it possible in the future that all this can be done without even taking your phone out of your pocket or bag. Moreover, for owners of the BMW 5-series, the feature will debut in the July that iOS 13. So they would not have to wait until iOS 14 is available to the general public this fall.

The Digital Key Setup will be via the BMW app. The car will have a system that opens the door and start the vehicle too. Also, on the BMW, an owner can share keys without around five others via the Apple Message texting app with full access or restricted driving profiles that give up top speed, horsepower, maximum radio volume, etc. The restricted driving feature is more useful when you want to give a teenager access to the car.

The Company announced that the digital key for iPhone would be available in 45 countries and on a range of models the BMW’s 1 series, 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series, 8 series, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M, and Z4.
