If you often shift around the country and wish to avoid the trouble of waiting for the method of transferring your vehicle registration, there is finally some good news. A new vehicle registration mark, known as the Bharat series or ‘BH’ has been imposed by the Centre for all vehicles.

What Does It Mean?

According to the new ‘BH’ Bharat Series Vehicle Registration Mark, a vehicle having this registration mark does not require a new registration mark after the owner of the vehicle shifts from one state to a different state.

Under this,  the vehicle registration facility will be accessible voluntarily to the Defense Group, workers of the Central government, regime, Central or State Public Sector Undertakings and personal sector corporations or organizations that have offices in four or more states or union territories.

Format of BH-series Vehicle Registration Mark

The format of the BH-series registration mark is going to be YY BH #### XX, where-

  • YY denotes the year of first registration,
  • BH is code for Bharat Series,
  •  #### is that the randomized four-digit range and
  • XX are two alphabets.

Tax Implications

According to the statement, the car vehicle tax charged by India at the time of registration will be-

  •  8 per cent in case of cars cost up to Rs 10 Lakh,
  • 10 per cent in case of cars cost between Rs 10-20 Lakh and
  • 12 per cent in case of cars cost more than 20 Lakh.
  • 2  per cent more charge for diesel vehicles,
  • 2 per cent less tax for electric vehicles

For the vehicles having a BH-series registration mark, the car vehicle tax will be charged digitally.

Current System

Till now, under section 47 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, an individual was allowed to keep the vehicle for less than twelve months in any state apart from the state where the car was registered. However, a new registration with the latest state-registering authority should be made in a year.

Current-Car-number-plate-System

For re-registration of the vehicle from one state to a different, the owner has to take ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the parent state for assignment of a new registration mark in another state and once the new registration number plate the road tax on a comparative basis is paid within the new state.

Application for refunding the road tax within the parent state based on calculated shares was a tedious method and varied from one state to another.

Under the new BH series, motorized vehicle taxes will be levied for two years or 4, 6, or 8 years. The theme can facilitate the free movement of personal vehicles after they are shifted to the new state. Motorized vehicle Tax will be calculated annually once the fourteenth year, which can be half the quantity formerly collected for that vehicle.

Advantage

This may be advantageous for individuals with transferable jobs who keep moving from one state to a different one. This may facilitate individuals shifting base to avoid transferring registration certificates of their vehicles on every occasion they move to a  new state.

Previous Changes Introduced by the Road Transport Ministry

The Centre introduced the latest BH series. All vehicles were oversubscribed in India before April 2019 to possess High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) last year.

It claimed that vehicle documents found valid through electronic means should not be demanded in physical forms for review. It also said that vehicle documents found reasonable through electronic means shall not be ordered in physical conditions for review. At present, a traveler vehicle owner for re-registration of a car should take no objection certificate from the parent state to assign a new registration mark in another state.

Also, the latest registration mark assignment is finished when the road tax is paid within the new state. The owners had to say the already paid quantity from the state wherever the vehicle was registered. The government says that the new rules can put an end to the current “large process”.

When Will it Start From?

The Central Motor Vehicles Rules will start from 15 September 2021. The registration marks for BH-series vehicles are going to be generated indiscriminately through the vehicle registration portal.
